Our Story
Our story began in 2008 when we decided to leave our jobs in Prescott, AZ and set out on a 4-month journey around the continental United States. Being young and operating on a shoestring budget, we traveled and camped out of our (not quite) trusty Chevy Blazer we appropriately nicknamed “squeaks”. We did some hiking, a little climbing, and visited some of the most amazing places America has to offer from the Rockies and Appalachians to the Atlantic and Pacific shores. Our goal was to find the perfect spot to call our home. But after more than 10,000 miles, we learned two important lessons. First, we realized that we shared a love for travel. And second, we found many places we loved visiting, but none that spoke to us as the place where we wanted to hang our hats for good.
So, we returned to Prescott and set our sights on lands further afield. After a thwarted attempt to relocate to Western Australia (the Australian bureaucratic machine is a force to be reckoned with by the way), we packed up our belongings and headed to sunny Hawai’i in 2014.
After more than 3 years in Oahu, soaking up the Hawaiian sun, hiking all over the Islands, kayaking, a lot of open water swimming (on Kurt’s part), and a lot more poke, we sadly said aloha to Hawai’i and headed back to the mainland to be closer to our families.
So, in 2017, we found ourselves in Austin, TX – the furthest east we were willing to move to be closer to our families on the east coast. In the blink of an eye, 9 years passed and we discovered that we had set down some serious roots in the ATX. We found fulfilling jobs, made good friends, and even bought a wonderful home.
But soon enough, wanderlust and a thirst for adventure started to creep into our hearts and minds once again.
And in case you’re wondering, we did make it to Australia in 2019 for a short visit. We highly recommend making that long flight. There’s truly no place like Australia and we hope to return one day soon. 2 weeks was just not long enough! During our time in Austin, we also made stops in Turks and Caicos, Belize, Egypt, Mexico, Dominica, and Italy.
After all this relocating and traveling, we realized that we absolutely love the adventure of international travel. Perhaps more intriguingly, we loved the places we visited enough that we may even want to move there some day.
That brings us to 2026, and here we are on a 4-month sabbatical making our way through Central America. We’re still looking for that perfect spot to call our own, and we’ll let you know when we find it. But in the meantime, we’re enjoying wandering the tropics and a whole bunch of places in between.
Thanks for joining us and we hope you enjoy the ride as much as we do!
